Humanitarian crises can develop from a number of events. Typically, these are conflicts, war, natural disasters and disease outbreak. In situations where humanitarian crises take place, countries and communities are often left in danger of their health, safety, security and general well-being.
Incineration for Disease Outbreak
In cases of disease outbreak, the waste is likely to be infectious waste. This waste type can be a threat to anyone who comes into contact with it. Containment is key to prevent the spread of infection and disease.
Over the years, INCINER8 have been involved in the containment and control of some of the most infectious and destructive disease outbreaks of recent times. From Ebola in Liberia to SARS in South East Asia, we have been instrumental in providing high temperature medical waste incinerators to safely destroy infected waste.
The Ebola virus is a deadly disease that has seen the loss of hundreds of lives in West Africa. Bed linen, medical instruments and tools, clothing and even mattresses are all potential carriers of the virus after use with infected patients. It is vital that proper actions are in place for the safe disposal of anything which has come into contact with it.
Our range of medical incinerator units can be drawn down by any humanitarian or aid agency in times of crisis. They can be deployed quickly and cheaply to the places where they are needed most. In many circumstances our mobile incinerators allow for rapid processing over a wide area.
Packaging and transporting this type of waste simply isn’t an option due to the risks of cross contamination associated. Therefore, it is important that the hazardous waste is treated at the source.
Incinerators for Conflict and War zones
Due to war, famine, economics and persecution, people are often left fleeing their homes seeking safety. One of the largest refugee camps in the world, holds around 630,000 people with other refugee settlements not far behind. On top of this, there are also hundreds of large military camps in similar remote areas needing the same facilities.
Typical waste generated from refugee camps and military camps is considered as MSW (Municipal Solid Waste). This type of waste usually compromises of:
- Food waste
- Cardboard and Paper
However, due to the large number of people housed at these camps, there is often a need for medical treatment. Medical waste should be disposed of as quickly as possible to avoid the risk of infection to others.
With the location of many refugee and military camps being remote, transportation of waste can be difficult and near impossible. Our incineration systems can provide immediate waste management as the units are fully assembled and pre-installed.
Our medium and larger incinerators can be fitted with heat exchangers (for hot water and hot air) or waste to energy modules to generate electricity for the camps.
Incineration in the event of Natural Disasters
Natural disasters happen all over the world and unfortunately can’t be completely prevented. They cause lots of damage to buildings, people and the surrounding environment.
The damage left behind from natural disasters often consists of:
- Debris from collapsed buildings
- Collapsed trees and rubble
- General waste
- Dead wildlife and livestock
In worst case scenarios, natural disasters often cause a lot of death among communities. If waste of this type is not removed and treated immediately, it can very quickly become contaminated and pose a threat to human life.
INCINER8 have years of experience in providing most of the major NGO’s and charitable organisations with waste solutions. We have sold and commissioned 1000’s of machines since we started back in 2004 to this type of humanitarian crisis.
We offer a range of emergency incinerators to provide immediate waste management to natural disaster zones. Our containerised incinerators are the perfect solution as they arrive onsite with fully installed fuel supply, electrical generators, and control panels ready to be used.
“If waste is not dealt with quickly, serious health risks will develop which will further demoralise the community already traumatised by the emergency.” World Health Organisation
Why choose INCINER8?
INCINER8 have plenty of experience in supporting humanitarian efforts around the globe. Since 2014 we have worked closely with NGOs and Aid Agencies to ensure rapid deployment of our machines to areas where they are needed most.
At INCINER8, we know that experience counts for everything when lives are involved. In previous years we have been assisted by the US Army in the logistics of getting our incinerators on the ground as quickly as possible. The mission was to airlift i8-M80 Medical incinerators to a new Ebola treatment unit built in support of Operation United Assistance.
Our commitment to providing quality products that are affordable, easy to setup and reliable is one of the main reasons these global organisations come back to us year after year.
