Biohazardous waste destruction. Safe on-site incineration of all contaminated medical & clinical waste. From compact mobile units to bespoke designed thermal treatment solutions.
Bio-waste relates to any waste products that may carry human pathogens, and therefore presents the risk of infecting others.
Incineration is becoming a popular method of destroying these materials and our incinerators are specially designed to ensure this type of waste is safely managed without risk to others.
Biohazardous products are found all around us. But more typically, they are located in hospitals, primary care trusts, GP surgeries, care homes, research and pharmaceutical laboratories, cosmetic surgery clinics, opticians and podiatrists.
Safe incineration of infected and hazardous waste from medical, biomedical and healthcare environments
Proper disposal of these waste streams is paramount to remove the risk of cross-contamination or infection.
Medical waste, that is generated by healthcare facilities, is also referred to as biomedical waste and healthcare waste. The World Health Organisation categorises anything that falls under these terms and is contaminated – or could potentially be contaminated – as ‘biohazardous’, while non-contaminated equipment and tissues are known as ‘general medical waste’.
20 to 25 per cent of the total waste generated by healthcare establishments is regarded as hazardous and may create a variety of health and environmental risks if not managed and destroyed in an appropriate manner.
Due to the high temperatures of incineration, chemicals or any contaminated materials that pose a threat to health can be completely destroyed.
Incineration provides complete destruction of hazardous waste, which would otherwise go to landfill. Sending hazardous waste to landfill can be very dangerous as there is a high risk of ground pollution. Infected waste can contaminate the ground, which could make its way into the food and drink supply.
The regulations for disposing of biohazardous waste are precise and strictly controlled. In England and Wales, the Hazardous Waste Regulations require that most premises producing hazardous waste be registered with the Environment Agency.
Destroying biohazardous waste by incineration involves implementing the tools and facilities to burn infected materials at source, with products that are specially designed to cope with medical waste generated from within a wide variety of conditions. Find out more here.
Our popular medical waste incinerators have been used by leading health organisations across the world to control the spread of disease by safely destroying biohazardous waste.
